SMK 1311 MASONRY WATER REPELLENT

Characteristics
SMK 1311 is a solvent-free silicone micro-emulsion concentrate based on silanes & siloxanes which are diluted with water to yield micro-emulsions. The dilute, aqueous solution of SMK 1311 serves as a high quality, general purpose water repellent for impregnating & priming mineral & even alkaline substrates.

Features
• Water-free & solvent-free silicone concentrate
• Spontaneously mixes with water without the need for sophisticated mixing devices
• Dilute with clean water
• Silicone micro-emulsions which have been activated with water must be used on the day of preparation

Uses
Diluted with water SMK 1311 is used as a general purpose water repellent for absorbent, mineral & even alkaline substrates, such as natural stone, brick, concrete & sand-lime brick, as well as for mineral paints & stuccos.
SMK 1311 is also suitable as a primer for dispersion based paints & stuccos, silicone resin paints & stuccos, concrete coatings, & as a water repellent for the in-plant treatment of lightweight aggregates & clay building materials, aerated concrete, sand-lime brick, fibre-reinforced concrete & mineral-fibre materials.

Application
Mask or protect other surfaces prior to commencing application. Care must be taken to ensure the surface is clean and sufficient drying/hardening time has been given to any previous coating or area of repair during the course of preparation.
SMK 1311 which has been diluted with water should be used on the day of dilution, i.e. only dilute as much product as can be used on the same day.

The dilution should be liberally applied in at least two coats to the surface of the building material. Apply by brush or low pressure spray (e.g. knapsack). Application by flooding is especially recommended. The building material to be treated should be dry.

Dilution
Use only clean water for the dilution of SMK 1311. When adding water to SMK 1311, briefly stir the mixture. A fine-particle opalescent micro-emulsion will result whose appearance will not change even after the pot life has expired.
In general, good results will be obtained if SMK 1311 is used diluted with water in a ratio of 1:9 to 1:14 (i.e. 1 pbw SMK 1311 plus 9 to 14 pbw water).

Safety Instructions
Comprehensive instructions are given in the corresponding Material Safety Data Sheets. These are available on request.

Storage Stability
Undiluted SMK 1311 has a shelf life of at least 12 months from the date on the delivery note if stored in tightly closed containers. Storage at temperatures exceeding 30° must be avoided. The containers must be protected from direct sunlight.
If SMK 1311 is kept beyond the recommended shelf life, it is not necessarily unusable, but a quality control should be performed on the properties relevant to the intended application.
